Honorees are recognized for their generosity, thoughtfulness, and lasting impact on students — helping them navigate challenges, grow their ideas, and build with purpose.

Professor of the Practice of EngineeringA C-suite business leader who is passionate about teaching, Professor Thano Chaltas thrives on the energy of those who want to learn. The son of public school educators from an immigrant community, Thano’s credentials are eclectic: Brown BA concentrating in Religious Studies, Jabberwock Music Director, a prescient certificate in Teaching; Northwestern Kellogg MBA; blue chip career with P&G, Kraft, UST, Wellpet and Ocean Spray.
Returning to College Hill to help Brown students on their journey and being a worthy steward of Dean Hazeltine’s legacy has been a true joy. He is so very proud and humbled by his inspiring children Will and Kat, 35 years of marriage to Alison, and being a guy who sneaks in travel, golf, and skiing…when he’s not singing.

Sheila Haggerty P'19
Associate Director, Nelson Center for EntrepreneurshipSheila is a strategic and collaborative leader with extensive experience in educational and nonprofit management. As a key member of the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship’s leadership team, she supports the Center’s operations, academic programs, and student ventures, drawing on her background as Department Manager for the Visual Art Department and her foundational role in establishing Quest Montessori School. Sheila has experience advising corporations on building art collections and artists on building business practices. She holds a Master’s in Art History and Museum Training, a BA in printmaking, and has worked at the Corcoran Museum of American Art and Reynolda House. She is committed to advancing entrepreneurship education through thoughtful program development and enjoys cycling, hiking, reading, and time with family and friends.

Founder, 1821 | Co-founder, LongJumpJonathan is a serial entrepreneur, an advisory board member at six companies, an LP and venture partner at Waterman Ventures, and a startup coach at Alchemist Accelerator. An emeritus trustee of the Brown University Corporation, he serves on several boards—including the Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection and the Episcopal Impact Fund (San Francisco)—and sits on the membership committee of the Angel Capital Association. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Brown University and an M.A. in Military History from Norwich University.
