Brown Ventures in Action
Uproot is a food service provider specializing in sustainable, affordable plant-based milk. Their offerings include almond, soy, coconut, oat, and chocolate pea milk — all fair-trade and non-GMO. Founded in 2018 by Kevin Eve ’18, Uproot was a winner of the 2019 Brown Venture Prize and a member of the 2018 B-Lab cohort.
Early in its history, Uproot launched single-serve cartons and became the primary plant milk provider for Brown University, Roger Williams University, and Villanova University, among others. Uproot oat milk cartons also debuted as the #1 new release in the oat milk category on Amazon.
Uproot expanded nationwide with over 150 plant-based milk dispensers installed at colleges, K–12 schools, hospitals, and other institutions across the U.S. Their products are distributed through major foodservice distributors like Sysco and US Foods, increasing their availability. In 2024, Uproot was acquired by Califia Farms. In this leading plant-based beverage company, Kevin now serves as a Sales Director, further expanding the reach of Uproot’s products and dispenser program.
