Dani King is an extended-size women’s footwear company creating luxury shoes in sizes 9-15. Unlike many brands that treat large sizes as an afterthought, Dani King places it at the forefront of our design philosophy and brand identity. Our shoes are meticulously designed for the unique needs of larger feet, featuring increased arch support, reinforced heels, wider toe boxes, and varying widths to ensure an optimal fit. DAYGUARD is a peach-flavored jelly stick that mitigates hangovers and protects liver health when drinking alcohol. We use ingredients like DHM, L-Cysteine, and Korean Pear to support liver function and boost recovery. Unlike conventional remedies like pills or liquid shots, our jelly stick format is easy to carry, requires no prep, and has a great taste, making it ideal for busy, health-conscious individuals.

Support for Afghan Girls’ Education (SAGE) – 3rd Place Winner ($10,000)

Support for Afghan Girls’ Education (SAGE) is a Rhode Island 501(C)3 nonprofit that provides financial and program support to girls and young women in Afghanistan. Since the Taliban takeover in August 2021, girls over the age of 12 have been forbidden to attend school.

Ashley Ryder is a Partner at VamosVentures, a venture capital fund investing in early-stage companies focused on the Latinx and diverse opportunity across Health & Wellness, FinTech, Future of Work, and Sustainability. The fund does Pre-Seed to Series A deals with $500K-$2M checks. She started her career at Morgan Stanley in Capital Markets and moved into strategic roles at YC startup Shoptiques.com, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Estee Lauder focused on the intersection of the consumer and technology verticals. She was previously an investor at Brand Foundry Ventures, Founders Factory, and Dorm Room Fund across Commerce, Healthcare, and FinTech. Ashley holds a BA from Brown University and an MBA from MIT Sloan.

Chris Masto is an investor, advisor and board member in entrepreneurial growth companies.  He is Co-Founder and Senior Advisor at FFL Partners, a private equity firm, which he co-founded in 1997 and where he served as a Partner, member of the Investment Committee, and member of firm leadership until transitioning to a Senior Advisor role in 2017.   Previously, he worked as a management consultant with Bain & Company and an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co.   Chris currently serves on the Board of Directors of Katapult (NASDAQ: KPLT) and Idealist.org, and is an Advisory Board Member of Valo Ventures.  He was previously the Chairman of the Board at Resident Home, CURO Group Holdings Corp. (NYSE: CURO) and TriTech Software Systems, and a Director of Tempur Sealy International (NYSE: TPX) and VolunteerMatch.org.  He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with an Sc.B. in Electrical Engineering and received an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Lorine Pendleton is a seasoned venture capital investor and former media and entertainment attorney with a background spanning technology, media, sports, and entertainment. She has established herself in angel and venture capital investing ecosystem 11 years ago. She is the founder of launched 125 Ventures, a VC fund investing in sports, media and entertainment companies. She was previously an Investment Partner at Portfolia Rising America Fund I & I. She has received numerous accolades, including a Women of Influence in 2024 for Private Markets in the VC category by Private Equity International, one of Worth’s “16 Financial Powerhouses,” and Marie Claire’s “50 Most Connected Women in America.” She has served on prestigious boards like Storj and the Angel Capital Association and contributed as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Brown University. Her commitment to innovation and diversity continues to shape the future of venture capital and entrepreneurship. She is a graduate of Brown University and New York Law School.

Mary Gunn, PhD LLM MBA, is a Chair, Non-Executive Director, Advisory Board Member, and CEO with over two decades of public and private companies’ governance experience in high growth life science, financial services, and education sectors with particular expertise in private companies’ investments, publicly traded diversified funds, renowned global top 10 universities, small and large cap pharma service providers, large cap pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices/diagnostics companies.

Mary has three decades of leadership, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 in private and public companies. She is also a turnaround/transact and commercialization expert and serve as an advisor for private equity, supporting transactions/deal sourcing/due diligence on the buy side. As a global C-level executive I have overseen up to 75 countries, 4200 employees, and a $2.4 Billion portfolio (Pfizer, Crucell/J&J, Becton Dickinson, ICON Plc, Premier Research). She has completed 11 corporate M&A transactions and helped develop a biologic human cell line from which several mAbs and vaccines derive. Also, Mary contributed to the development of many lifesaving products in oncology, neurology, vaccines, women’s health, and other therapeutic areas. Earlier, Mary worked for US Senator Jeff Bingaman, as a journalist for the Albuquerque Journal, and in conservation for the Smithsonian Institute. Mary was also an Eve and Simon Colin Foundation Scholar, a US President’s Scholar, and a NM Regent Board Scholar.

Matthew Rodriguez is an angel investor, entrepreneur, and marketing strategist with experience scaling companies from startups to global brands, including Twitter, Facebook, Paramount, and Sundance. As the founder of 1985 Capital, he leads a venture lab dedicated to helping tech founders and filmmakers navigate structural challenges in their industries. A passionate advocate for innovation and storytelling, Matthew brings a unique perspective at the intersection of media, technology, and capital. Originally from South Korea and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, he now lives in New York City. He graduated from Brown in 2002 with an A.B. in Political Science.

Richard Katzman is a private investor in early stage companies, advising and investing in over two dozen startups. He is also a board member of The Noodle Companies, a group of ventures seeking to increase transparency and efficiency in education. Richard was President, Chairman, and CEO of Kaz, Incorporated, a multinational consumer appliance company, from 1984 until its sale in 2011. Under his leadership, Kaz grew from $5 M to $500 Million in annual sales of humidifiers, digital thermometers, air cleaners, and other products under the Vicks, Honeywell, and Braun brands. He also co-founded Terra Firma Software, a provider of enterprise solutions and an early developer of Macintosh applications.

Roja Garimella is the Founder of Kubera Health, a healthcare tech company focused on eliminating financial complexity in healthcare. Kubera’s flagship product, a managed care contracting analytics suite, helps healthcare enterprises optimize contract terms, payment performance, and payor policies to improve financial and patient outcomes. Roja’s diverse healthcare background includes research, consulting, start-ups (building/investing), medical training, and administrative roles at health insurers. She has published 15+ medical journal articles, contributed to changes in diagnostic guidelines and staffing workflows, and launched new ventures and value-based care models inside of multi-billion dollar enterprises. Her experience also includes investing at Winter Street Ventures and FCA Venture Partners, where she led diligence and supported investments in Seed to Series C healthcare companies. Roja is passionate about reducing administrative inefficiencies in the U.S. healthcare system to benefit patients and clinicians.

Roja holds an A.B. in Public Health and an M.D. from Brown University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. While at Brown Med, she served as a Peer Entrepreneur In Residence at the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship and was part of the team that won the 2018 BVP audience award. She’s excited to return as a judge!

Scott Friend is a partner at Bain Capital Ventures. He invests in disruptive new consumer products and services, retail-related technologies, and data and analytics-focused application software. Scott joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2006 after selling the company he co-founded, ProfitLogic, to Oracle.  ProfitLogic was the leader in the world of retail analytics and price optimization solutions.
