After Austin Martin ’17 (Brown U) discovered that 67 of the top 100 SAT words could be found in recognizable hip-hop songs, he knew he could leverage the genre’s lyrics to teach literacy and vocabulary in 100-plus education programs. That’s why he started Rhymes with Reason (RWR) while an undergraduate at Brown, an online platform that allows students to study vocabulary words and more through hip-hop music. Among Martin’s collaborators is musical artist Chance the Rapper’s SocialWorks, which teamed up with RWR to make the Chicago Learning Playlist for 1,000+ students.
