Larry Rand, Ph.D. ’64, P’93 will lead an interactive discussion on “Sexism in Silicon Valley”, an exploration and possible explanation why, in this bastion of entrepreneurialism and liberalism, there is so much discrimination against women, both in terms of advancement (for example Sheryl Sandberg and Meg Whitman notwithstanding) and pay. The answer may be found in the lack of solid corporate governance and “adults” in the Boardroom. Why is this so? The answers may be found in the “Cowboy Capitalist” culture that is so prevalent in the Valley. The talk will dive into the nuances of that culture and why it has become ripe for litigations, shareholder activism, and regulatory slapdowns.
