Tracking down lead pipes in the U.S. is an extremely timely and expensive task. In fact, there is still relatively little data on the location of lead pipes across the country. H2OK Innovations is an IoT-enabled analytics platform providing data-driven optimization of industrial liquid systems for manufacturing. In other words, the contaminant management platform that helps industrial and manufacturing businesses optimize water usage and treatment through predictive diagnostics.

H2OK Innovations, a Brown Venture Prize Finalist, was co-founded by David Lu, ’20. Lu was a part of BrownEP and Startup@Brown. The firm was recently named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for Manufacturing & Industry. Customers include Cargill, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Ecolab and the Dairy Farmers of America.

ianacare

ianacare

Founded by Jessica Kim, ’00, ianacare is a virtual app that consolidates and streamlines resources to encourage, empower, and equip family caregivers. Inspired by Kim’s own struggles with caring for her mother, the app seeks to alleviate the financial and emotional burdens of caretaking. Users can organize and mobilize friends and family onto one team for easy coordination of everyday errands, such as groceries, picking up medication from the pharmacy, and arranging transportation. The app is also compatible with employers. “iana” stands for “I am not alone.”

Kim has previously served as an Entrepreneur in Residence for the Nelson Center in 2018 – 19. The firm recently raised $12.1M in funding. You can read their Forbes profile here.

Multitasky

Multitasky

Multitasky is the one stop-shop for stylish and functional home office accessories designed for women. Featuring collections of tech accessories, office supplies, and home convenience products, Multitasky enables women to create workspaces as extraordinary as they are. 

Multitasky was founded by Julia Xu ‘15. While a student at Brown, Julia Xu participated in the Brown EP program, was a founding member of Innovation Dojo, and founded ethical knitwear accessory brand Tink Knit. She is also an independent startup business consultant who has advised other Brown University ventures, including Liberare and Perkies

Omena

Omena

Omena is a non-profit organization committed to increasing awareness of emotional abuse in Madagascar’s educational system by providing tools for students to combat and stand up to abuse. Currently, Omena has 100+ volunteers around the world and has expanded to 13 countries (and counting). The Forbes 30 Under 30 accoladed organization was profiled in the Boston Globe here.

Omena was featured on MTVU Stories, now known as Cheddar University, which brought her story to the mainstream. The nonprofit is supported by the Clinton Foundation. Founder Francesca Raoelison, ’22 was a PEIR, Brown Venture Prize 2021 finalist, and 2019 B-Lab Alum.

Penta

Penta

Penta is a nonprofit social venture that repurposes second-hand and surplus medical equipment from the U.S. to bring high-quality, low-cost care to amputees around the world. Founders Trang Duong ‘18. Henry Iseman, and Victor Wang were inspired to find a solution for the roughly 90% of the world’s 100 million amputees who lack access to proper prosthetic care and equipment. Founded in 2018, Penta has expanded into 16 countries and partners with nonprofit organizations, healthcare institutions, and governments around the world. 

Penta was the recipient of the first ever Brown Venture Prize in 2018, and won the Yale College Dean’s Challenge on Social Innovation in 2017. It was included on the Forbes 30 under 30 list for Healthcare in 2019, and was part of the Clinton Global Initiative University Innovation Fund. Read Penta’s feature in Inc. here
